Below are some of our recent projects.

Carrolup/Marribank Mission Tourism Venture Feasibility and Business Plan (Client: Southern Aboriginal Corporation: Timeframe April – November 2008): In association with Moontide Management, Nyaarla Projects examined SAC’s idea to develop a tourism venture at Carrolup Mission.  The intention of the review being to determine the most effective and cost efficient method, or business model, whereby the current Indigenous participants can move away from welfare-dependence and CDEP wage support to self-employment through the establishment of the Carrolup Mission Tourism Venture.  The Feasibility Study was recently completed and presented to the SAC board.

Karalundi Strategic Business Review (Client: Karalundi Aboriginal Education Centre & Community Inc.): Timeframe April - Oct 2008): In association with Quantum Consulting, Nyaarla Projects examined and assessed Karalundi’s current and possible future business operations including the analysis of various enterprise development options and through this have developed a Strategic Plan makes recommendations that will secure the long term viability for the Karalundi school and community.

Evaluation of the Success for Boys Programme (Client – Department of Education, Science and Training: Timeframe December 2007 – May 2008): Nyaarla Projects in association with Quantum Consulting is conducting this evaluation looking at (a) the effectiveness of the Success for Boys Programme in achieving its broad objectives (b) the Appropriateness of the Programme (c) the efficiency of the Programme and (d) whether the Programme is a model for future boys’ education initiatives. Nyaarla Projects undertook the consultations in Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania.

Evaluate and Report on the What Works Project (Client – Department of Education, Science and Training: Timeframe December 2007 – May 2008): Nyaarla Projects in association with Quantum Consulting is conducting this evaluation which has two purposes (a) to examine the appropriateness, effectiveness and efficiency of the What Works Project in order to assess the extent to which it is meeting its stated objectives and (b) to make recommendations on opportunities for improving its performance of the What Works project. Nyaarla Projects undertook the consultations in New South Wales.

Rolling Reviews of Aboriginal Communities and Indigenous Housing Organisations  (Client – Department of Housing and Works (DHW): Timeframe December 2005 – Mid 2008): Nyaarla Projects in association with Quantum Consulting is undertaking a series of reviews of Indigenous Housing Organisations. The purpose of these reviews being to assess the performance of the existing grantee Housing Organisations and analyse the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisations in reducing the level of housing need either in their town or their communities, and in addition review will assess the efficiency and effectiveness of the existing arrangements. Nyaarla Projects has participated in the review of Indigenous Housing Organisations in Fitzroy Crossing and Derby.

Housing Management Action Plan (Client: Emama Nguda Aboriginal Corporation: Timeframe  Aug -Dec 2007): As a result of the proposed changes to provision of housing services to Indigenous communities in Western Australia, Nyaarla Projects was engaged to (a) develop a plan to assist Emama Nguda through to 30 June 2008 (b) review the recommendations made in the Emama Nguda DHW Rolling Review and examine progress and where feasible implementation (c) report on how the organisation needs to prepare for the changes that will occur as of 1 July 2009.
Town Reserves Options Paper (Client: Dept of Indigenous Affairs (DIA): Timeframe May – Aug 2007 ): Nyaarla Projects was engaged by DIA’s Pilbara regional office to develop an options paper as part of the process of developing guidance and policy direction for the mainstreaming of government services to Aboriginal Town Based Communities in the Pilbara region.

Evaluation of the Outcomes of the Increasing Vocational Learning Opportunities for Indigenous Students (IVLOIS) Programme (Client: Dept of Education, Science and Training: Timeframe Feb - July 2007): Nyaarla Projects in association with Quantum Consulting undertook a consultancy to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the IVLOIS Programme in particular to (a) evaluate the effectiveness and appropriateness of the IVLOIS Programme in helping to achieve the goals of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Policy, including what IVLOIS Project activities most positively influenced the long term education and employment outcomes of IVLOIS participants and (b) report on lessons learnt from the implementation and operation of the IVLOIS programme. Nyaarla Projects undertook consultations in the Northern Territory and Western Australia.

Evaluation of the National Arts and Crafts Industry Support (NACIS) Programme (Client: Dept of Communications, Information, Technology and the Arts/DCITA: Timeframe  Jan - May 2007): Nyaarla Projects in association with Quantum Consulting undertook this evaluation. The consultation process included stakeholders from Industry Peak Bodies, Gallery operators, Artists/Arts Centre Coordinators and Art Centre Workers and DCITA staff (national office, state offices and regional ICC’s). Nyaarla Projects undertook consultations in Queensland and New South Wales.

New Way Training and Employment Service: Feasibility Study (Client: Dept of Industry and Resouces/Koorlbardi Aboriginal Corporation: Timeframe Dec 2006 - April 2007): The purpose of the feasibility study was to: (a) assess the viability and ongoing sustainability of the proposed service and (b) identify and assess potential partnerships that will contribute to the ongoing sustainability of the proposed venture.

Feasibility Study – Gibb River Road Roadhouse (Client: Indigenous Business Australia – IBA: Timeframe May 2006 – Feb 2007): The purpose of the feasibility study was to (a) assess the viability and ongoing sustainability of the roadhouse via a desktop and (b) outline issues that will need to be addressed should the project reach the next stage of business planning.

Concept Plan (Client – Armadale Redevelopment Authority: Timeframe July – Dec 2004): In association with Parsons Brinckerhoff prepared a concept plan for an Aboriginal Centre following consultation with local Aboriginal groups and identified stakeholders for the Armadale Redevelopment Authority. Nyaarla Projects undertook the consultation process via a series of workshops, open days, face-to-face interviews and surveys.

Strategic Plan (Client - Thalgnarr Ngarriny Aboriginal Corporation: Timeframe July 2002 – Dec 2004): worked with the TNAC community council, Mardiwah Loop residents and Traditional Owners to develop a strategic plan for the future of the Mardiwah Loop community located on the outskirts of Halls Creek. The plan consisted of two key elements: Strategic Direction and Infrastructure Management Plan.

Business Plans (Client – Burringurrah Aboriginal Community and Ngaanyatjarra Community College): Timeframe Jan – Oct 2002): Development and production of a Business Plan for the management and ongoing viability of a community/training centre at the Burringurrah Community located in the Murchison/Gascoyne region and a similar business plan for the Ngaanyatjarra Community College in the Central Reserves.

Feasibility Study (Client – Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health via Arup/Parsons Brinckerhoff: Timeframe Aug – Oct 2001): Completed a Feasibility Study including a concept plan and costing on the need for a Medical Clinic and Staff House at the Burringurrah Aboriginal Community as a part of the Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health (OATSIH) program.
