Below are some of our recent projects.
Indigenous Sport & Recreation Plan Stage Three (Client: Department of Sport and Recreation: Timeframe March - Sept 2008): In association with Quantum Consulting, Nyaarla Projects developed and wrote a Sport & Culture Plan. This was done after consultation involving community visits, discussions with key stakeholders and a workshop involving over 50 participants from Commonwealth Government, WA Government, Local Government, Aboriginal Community, key sporting bodies and private sector representatives. Follow up visits to the Kimberley (Kullarri and Tjurraballan) and Western Desert (Warburton) were undertaken at the draft report stage to obtain local Community feedback/input.
Indigenous Sport and Recreation Plan Stage Two (Client: Department of Sport and Recreation: Timeframe July -Dec 2007): In association with Quantum Consulting, Nyaarla Projects conducted detailed consultations in Aboriginal communities in the Tjurabalan/ East Kimberley COAG, Kullari/Broome and Western Desert regions so as to gain an understanding of the current status of sport and recreation provision in these regions and gather information and data on future sport and recreation needs.
Goomburrup Business Plan (Client: Goomburrup Aboriginal Corporation: Timeframe May 2007 - Dec 2008): This project is a two stage process, the first being to conduct and Feasibility Study and Development of a Business Plan for the future operations of the Corporation and the second stage being to Support the Implementation of the Business Plan and Provide Capacity Building Services to the Corporations Governing Committee over a 12 month period.
East Kimberley COAG Trial Site Review (Client – Office of Indigenous Policy Coordination: Timeframe Nov - Dec 2005): In association with Quantum Consulting conducted a review of the East Kimberley Council of Australian Governments (COAG) trial site. The review required consultation with the four local communities involved in the East Kimberley COAG trial and a range of relevant stakeholders.
Aboriginal Community Liaison for Site Selection of Hazardous Waste Treatment Plants (Client - Core Consultative Committee on Waste, Department of Environment: Timeframe July 2005 – April 2006): Nyaarla Projects won the tender to undertake liaison with Aboriginal stakeholders in the Pilbara, Goldfields and South West regions of Western Australia, for the site assessment processes and public exhibition period of the possible locations of four hazardous waste treatment plants. Relationships with Aboriginal stakeholders were developed in each region in order to identify their specific concerns and nurture their involvement in the wider community consultative process (the Stakeholder Involvement Program). This entailed a number of visits to each region to meet with concerned individuals and communities and the establishment of effective communication networks in order to provide feedback to communities about the site selection process.
The heritage values of each of the eight short-listed sites were identified and researched, together with a presentation of the Native Title situation at each site. Recommendations were made to improve the effectiveness of future community development and engagement processes with Aboriginal communities, with reference to public consultation mechanisms in Western Australia.
Regional Housing and Infrastructure Program Management Models Review (Client – Department of Housing and Works: Timeframe Sept 2004 – Apr 2005): Nyaarla Projects in association with Stamfords Consultants Advisors conducted a review of the regional housing and infrastructure program management models currently used by the Department of Housing and Works, Aboriginal Housing and Infrastructure Directorate. The consultancy focused on the most appropriate way to manage the regional housing and infrastructure program in WA. Consultation occurred via a series of stakeholder and Aboriginal community/organisation workshops in Perth and regional locations throughout WA. These were facilitated by Nyaarla Projects.
Workshop Facilitation (Client – ATSIS: Timeframe May – June 2004): The Katherine Regional Office of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Services (ATSIS) engaged Nyaarla to organise, facilitate and report on a Regional Workshop to further develop, in relation to its arts strategy, the Regional Plan prepared by Garrak-Jarru Regional Council. The Regional Workshop was also convened to consider the nature and extent of Indigenous involvement in the Katherine Cultural Precinct proposal.
